THE DERG INN
The Derg Inn Terryglass, Co Tipperary, on Lough Derg, is a warm and friendly local pub with a passion for the simple, good things in life. Voted on numerous occasions the Best Gastropub in Tipperary (2013, 2014, 2015, 1017) and also the best in Munster on two occasions.
Proprietors Mick and Joyce feel passionately about food and embrace the ideals this entails, conscientious as to the source and processes involved. Only the best ingredients are used, sourced locally where available, are homemade and reasonably priced. They grow their own vegetables and herbs in season. The Derg Inn staff are noted for their welcome and attentive hospitality. Guests are a priority. They are child friendly, wheelchair friendly and just plain all round friendly!
What makes The Derg Inn special? Joyce Soden has no hesitation with her response: “It’s our Team” she says, “We have a terrific team. They are super, talented and loyal.” Joyce and Mick Soden, both natives of Co Offaly, have been proprietors of The Derg Inn for the last 18 years.
Speaking about the menu, Joyce Said “we offer quite a selection of dishes that suit all tastes, everything from French classics to eastern specials and sea food, from simple bar food to a la carte”.
Both Joyce and Mick came from farming backgrounds when growing up as children. As a result, they both have a deep appreciation of the quality of their raw ingredients. Says Joyce ‘What we try to do is keep true to the way we were reared years ago, when families in rural Ireland knew the true quality of food that they picked from their own ground. What we do is honour good food’.
The Derg Inn Pub has a specialty Irish whiskey and local craft beer section and they also offer a great selection of wines, spirits, liqueurs and cocktails. The Derg Inn also have a shop, post office and petrol station and free wifi. There’s music in the bar at weekends and a Traditional Irish Music Session every Sunday at 7pm.
The Derg Inn is right on Lough Derg and is part of the network that is Ireland’s lakelands and inland waterways on the path of the Shannon River. This beautiful natural environment is home to many flora and fauna that can be appreciated throughout the year.
A pleasant walk from the water’s edge, incorporating a contemporary attractive quay, up a leafy tree-lined road brings you to secluded Terryglass one of the most visited villages in the midlands of Ireland. It is one of the top providers of tastefully appealing vacation accommodation, a haven to escape to in a busy world. History and archaeology have a prominent place in this picturesque location with a profusion of trees and flowers during Spring and Summer for visual charm.
